The Glenvar Middle School basketball teams will both be in action today. The boys will host Hidden Valley at 5:30 pm and the girls are at Hidden Valley. The boys lost a close game to Christiansburg last week. They were scheduled to play at Carroll County Wednesday. “We have eight 8th graders, five 7th graders, and three 6th graders on our roster this year,” said coach Josh Jones. “Our team captains are JD Williamson, John Deal and Grayson Harris. We’re excited about this group and look forward to seeing what they can accomplish throughout the season.”
The girls also opened with Christiansburg and lost 40-19. “They had a very good point guard in Jasmine Colman who scored 20 points,” said GMS coach Andrew Quillen. “It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, of course, but it was a good first game for us. It helped me know what we have and what we need to start working on right away.”
Glenvar was led by Ryleigh Dickerson with eight points and Maudie Doolan with six. “We looked better in the fourth quarter,” said Quillen. “It seemed like some of our volleyball players took a little bit to make that transition back to basketball game speed.” Next Monday, November 11, the Highlanders will host Blacksburg in a doubleheader with the boys playing at 4:30 pm and girls at 6 pm.
