The annual Gingerbread Festival is almost here and the Museum found one gingerbread creation is very similar to an item in our collection.
One of the most popular rides at Lakeside Amusement Park was the carousel. The original carousel opened in the early 1920s and had hand-carved wooden horses, including the one pictured. They were replaced in 1972 with fiberglass horses, but the wooden ones were maintained in Park storage.
This original carousel horse from Lakeside Amusement Park is currently on display at the Salem Museum. Visitors can also see this gingerbread carousel at the Museum this Saturday.
The Gingerbread Festival takes place Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Gingerbread Festival is a favorite holiday tradition! Longwood Park will be full of family-friendly activities, while the Salem Museum hosts the Gingerbread House Competition, with dozens of creations from imaginative six-year-olds to professional master bakers, and everyone in between. Visit the Museum on Saturday to see all of this year’s entries and vote for your favorite.
The Salem Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and located at 801 E. Main St.
