Jerry Lewis Bain (July 29, 1948 – January 23, 2025), 76, of Roanoke, VA passed away on January 23rd surrounded by his family.
Beloved husband, father, brother, PopPop and Patriarch of his family; left to honor his life is his wife of 51 years Brenda Bain; daughters, L. Jill Bain (Larry), Kelly Meador (Brandon), Lauren Hutt (Landon); grandchildren, Braylen Meador, Mackenzie Meador, Kasey Meador, Lela Hutt, Julian Hutt, Haley Billings, Hannah Slaughter; and brothers, Tim Bain (Ann), Jay Bain (Lisa), and Jimmy Bain (Caroline).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Margaret Bain.
Born in Salem, VA, Jerry graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. He worked over 40 years in the retail tire business before retiring and was respected by everyone that knew him for his quick thinking, ability to solve any problem and keeping his cool in every situation. After retirement he enjoyed daily outings and has always loved a good brain puzzle or anything with numbers.
His mottos were “Work Hard, Play Hard” and “If you’re going to do something, do it right.” He had a bigger than life personality with a warmth about him that was unmatched and a work ethic that was second to none. He had the gift of gab, a knack for finding common ground with anyone, and he purposely made everyone around him feel special and welcome. His ability to focus on the moment and be present was a gift. He had the most fantastic sense of humor and loved making others laugh.
Jerry was an avid golfer for many years. As he got older, he preferred the indoor sport of billiards. In both, he was quite competitive and enjoyed winning many tournaments. But his favorite pastime was watching his grandkids and attending their events: recitals, ball games, or pageants.
Services will be at Oakey’s East (5188 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke) on Saturday, February 1. Visitation is 12pm with funeral at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to St. Jude.
