Students at West Salem Elementary and their families explored science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics during the school’s annual STEAM Night last week.
The event featured interactive exhibits and hands-on activities led by local organizations, showcasing topics such as robotics, biology, water treatment, recycling, and artistic creativity. One of the highlights was the egg drop challenge, where students designed protective containers to prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a height by educators Mr. Wells and Mr. Crowder.
Participating organizations included the West Salem Art and Music Departments, Novonesis, The Curiosity Shop, Virginia Tech’s chemistry and physics departments, the Clean Valley Council, Elbit Systems of America, Virginia Tech Outreach, Blue Eagle Credit Union, the Salem Library, Salem High School Robotics, RL Burton Robotics, the Science Museum of Southwest Virginia, and Virginia Tech’s Institute for Critical Technology and Applied Science.
