The Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce celebrated its Annual Business Awards Breakfast on March 21, marking 90 years of supporting local businesses and community leaders. The event, held with record attendance of around 200 people, recognized outstanding businesses, first responders and community members.
Dwayne Yancey of Cardinal News served as the keynote speaker, addressing the crowd, which included local dignitaries such as State Senators David Suetterlein and Joe McNamara, Salem Mayor Renee Turk, Roanoke Mayor Sherman Lea, and representatives from Congressman Ben Cline’s office.
The awards ceremony highlighted the achievements of businesses demonstrating strong community involvement. Cameron May, digital director at Wheeler Digital, was featured in the Business Spotlight.
Salem Small Business of the Year, sponsored by Blue Ridge Sign and Stamp, was awarded to En L’air. Roanoke County Small Business of the Year went to Macado’s, while Salem Large Business of the Year was awarded to G&H Contracting. Roanoke County Large Business of the Year was presented to Famous Toastery.
The title of Regional Business of the Year was awarded to Wills on Wheels, and Franchise of the Year went to Chick-fil-A. Nonprofit of the Year was presented to Good Samaritan, recognizing their commitment to serving the community.
Additionally, the Chamber honored public safety professionals. Jared Bridges was named Salem Police Officer of the Year, while Justin Hubbard received the Roanoke County Police Officer of the Year award. Eric G. Fenning was recognized as Salem’s First Responder of the Year, and Captain Michael Unroe was named Roanoke County’s First Responder of the Year.
The Volunteer of the Year award went to Katie Beach for her dedication and service to the community. The chamber also posthumously honored Scotti Hartman, celebrating his impactful contributions.
A significant highlight of the event was the unveiling of “Around Salem,” a new annual publication by Berryfield and Tom Field. The publication aims to showcase community stories and celebrate local accomplishments.
“It was a beautiful ceremony to recognize our police, fire, and EMS heroes from Salem and Roanoke County,” said Amanda Livingston, Chamber executive director. “The event continues to be a heartfelt gathering that highlights the spirit of our community.”
The Annual Business Awards Breakfast, a premier event for the Chamber, has consistently sold out for the past five years, reflecting its importance in celebrating the region’s business and civic excellence.
