Roanoke College finished as the runner-up in the first men’s ODAC volleyball tournament last week. The Maroons beat Eastern Mennonite in the semifinal round in Salem, three sets to none, before losing 3-0 to top-seeded Randolph-Macon in Ashland Saturday.

The win over EMU was the first post-season victory for the third year program. Pierce Faulcon had a season best 13 kills in the match while posting a .545 hitting percentage.

That set up Saturday’s championship game. The Maroons put up a good fight before falling 25-16, 25-23 and 25-17.

Faulcon was the leading attacker for the Maroons for the second straight game with nine kills. Jackson Rutkowski and Michael Cummins were right behind him with seven apiece. Teagan Cole led the team in assists with 15.

The Maroons finished their third season with a 22-12 record, their best yet. They were 8-4 in ODAC matches under second year head coach Mark Rohrback, who also coaches the Glenvar High School girls’ team in the fall.
