The Glenvar High softball team will close out the regular season at Floyd County Friday, hoping to finish on a high note. Glenvar will compete in the Region 2C tournament next week.

The Highlanders were 13-6 overall and 6-4 in the Three Rivers District after defeating James River in Buchanan Monday, 3-1. The Knights were scheduled to return the trip for Glenvar’s “Senior Night” on Wednesday but results were too late for publication.

On Monday senior Abby Teubert was on the top of her game, shutting down a strong hitting James River team on five hits while striking out a dozen. She pitched the whole seven innings to pick up the win and got stronger as the game went along.

Glenvar had just four hits but put them to good use. Zella Hayes had two hits and Audrey Moles and Hannah Street had one each as the Highlanders came from behind with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Last Friday the Highlanders were able to get in a home game with Alleghany despite late afternoon thunderstorms. The Highlanders left two runners on base in both the second and sixth innings and had just four hits again, two by Hayes and one each by Moles and Haley Leginus. Moles singled in Hayes in the fifth for Glenvar’s run.

Hannah Street pitched all seven innings for Glenvar and deserved better, giving up seven hits and striking out six.
