The Salem Police Department welcomed the city’s fifth graders to Spartan Field last week for the annual D.A.R.E. Picnic, a tradition that celebrates the culmination of the school year with games, food and fun. Fifth-grade students from all four of Salem’s elementary schools gathered for the event, which included several hours of activities alongside Salem police officers. The picnic serves as a rite of passage for students before they head to Andrew Lewis Middle School in the fall. The department thanked the many teachers, school staff and officers who helped make the day possible. Chick-fil-A provided lunch for the students. The event continues to be a highlight of the year for Salem’s rising sixth graders.
