Democratic Voters in Salem Cast Ballots in June 17 Primary

All voters cast their ballots at the Salem Civic Center on Tuesday.

Voters in the City of Salem went to the polls on Tuesday, June 17, to help determine the Democratic Party’s nominees for three key offices ahead of the Nov. 4 General Election.

The state-administered primary included contested races for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and the 40th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

The ballot featured the following Democratic candidates with unofficial election results at press time as follows:

Lieutenant Governor

  • Levar Marcus Stoney —22.07% in Salem/26.65% in Virginia
  • Babur B. Lateef—8.16% in Salem/8.44% in Virginia
  • Aaron R. Rouse—22.32% in Salem/26.16% in Virginia
  • Victor R. Salgado—5.48% in Salem/5.57% in Virginia
  • Ghazala F. Hashmi —33.29% in Salem/27.49% in Virginia
  • Alexander J. Bastani —8.67% in Salem/5.70% in Virginia

Attorney General

  • Shannon L. Taylor —49.56% in Salem/49.06% in Virginia
  • Jay C. Jones—50.44% in Salem/50.94% in Virginia

Member, House of Delegates, 40th District

  • Donna M. Littlepage —68.93% in Salem/63.28% in Virginia
  • Kiesha Nicole Preston —31.07% in Salem/36.72% in Virginia

All registered voters in Salem cast their ballots in person at the Salem Civic Center between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Election Day. Voter turnout in Salem was 5% with 812 votes cast.

No Republican Primary Held

The Republican Party did not hold a primary election in Salem, as no contested races required a vote.

The Salem Civic Center is shown on Tuesday around 9 a.m.
