CONGRESSMAN
It was a great week in Washington as Congress concluded its final week before the August district work period.
I was proud to introduce my Fiscal Contingency Preparedness Act, a critical bill that ensures the federal government is ready to respond effectively in the event of a national emergency. Six months into a new Congress, and under President Trump’s leadership, we are already delivering meaningful results for the American people.
While in Washington, I had the pleasure of meeting with bright young students from Baptist Christian Academy during their Capitol tour. Their curiosity was a strong reminder of what we’re working to protect. As I return to Virginia’s Sixth District, I look forward to meeting with folks back home and discussing policies that will strengthen our communities and move our nation forward.
Planning Ahead with the Fiscal Contingency Preparedness Act
With our national debt surpassing $36 trillion and interest payments now exceeding what we spend on Medicare and national defense, we face a growing vulnerability–not just in our budget, but in our ability to respond to the next national emergency. Whether it’s a sudden economic downturn, a major energy disruption, or a national security threat, the federal government must be ready to act quickly and effectively. Right now, there is no clear plan for how we would respond under severe fiscal pressure. That is why I introduced the Fiscal Contingency Preparedness Act, a bipartisan effort to ensure we are not caught flat-footed when the next crisis hits.
This bill would require the Treasury Department and the Office of Management and Budget to assess and report on the government’s ability to respond to emergencies, while the Government Accountability Office would provide an independent review to keep the process transparent and honest. This is about readiness. It’s about giving our nation the tools to react when every second counts and every dollar matters. We don’t wait for the storm to hit before making a plan. We prepare in advance, just like families, businesses, and state governments do every day.
We cannot afford to be reactive in the face of future threats. Whether it’s a global conflict, a supply chain collapse, or another pandemic, this legislation is a step toward ensuring that the United States is always ready to protect its citizens and safeguard its future.
Six Months of the GOP Trifecta
From day one of this Congress, we have been working towards getting our country back on track. We are laying the foundation for a safer, stronger, and more prosperous America. The American people gave President Trump a clear mandate to put America First and Republicans have delivered. So far, we have enacted more than 50 of the President’s executive orders, cut waste, fraud, and abuse in Washington, and passed commonsense legislation that is already making a difference. That includes major victories like the One Big Beautiful Bill, which is delivering real results for families and small businesses.
Americans demanded secure borders and safer communities and Republicans have delivered the largest investment in border security and interior enforcement in our nation’s history. With the HALT Fentanyl Act and the Laken Riley Act, we are cracking down on the drugs and illegal immigration that have devastated too many innocent lives.
Americans asked for relief at the pump and in the checkout line and we delivered the largest middle-class tax cut in U.S. history through the One Big Beautiful Bill. We also rolled back a radical EV rule that would have pushed California policy on to Virginia, punishing working families and undermining American energy dominance. These are real, tangible results that will deliver for the Sixth district. In Congress, I will always work for hardworking Virginians and move our great nation forward. Promises were made, promises were kept.
Recession Act Becomes Law
Every American family knows what it means to live within a budget and make tough choices when times are uncertain; the federal government should do the same. In Congress, I’ve been focused on restoring a sense of responsibility to how Washington handles taxpayer dollars. That means making sure every dollar is accounted for and directed toward priorities that truly matter to the American people.
Taxpayers deserve a government that respects their contributions, spends wisely, and delivers results. That has been, and will continue to be, a top priority for me. At a time of rising deficits and growing economic uncertainty, this bill marks real progress toward restoring fiscal accountability and protecting future generations from an unsustainable debt burden. That is why I supported the Rescission Act of 2025 to take meaningful steps towards reducing wasteful federal spending.
This legislation reclaims billions of dollars from programs that do not serve the immediate needs of the American people and redirects focus toward core national priorities. I had the honor of standing alongside President Trump as he signed this important legislation into law. His leadership was instrumental in getting this bill across the finish line, and I look forward to continuing to work with him to deliver real results for the American people. I remain committed to building a government that lives within its means and respects the sacrifices of our hardworking taxpayers.
