Cara Fisher Daniels, a beloved member of her family, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.

At the tender age of 38, Cara left behind a legacy as a devoted mother, wife, daughter, sister, and friend.  Her greatest joy came from being a mother to Owen and Alaina and she embraced that role with her whole heart.  Her warm smile and infectious positivity touched the lives of everyone she knew, earning her the affectionate nickname “Sunshine.”

Cara’s passion for her work as an instructional assistant for the City of Salem schools, particularly with special needs students, was evident in her dedication and love for her craft.  She was an avid fan of Kenny Chesney and a die-hard Titanic enthusiast.

Cara was a true social butterfly effortlessly forming connections and surrounding herself with a wide circle of friends.  She was the embodiment of kindness, leaving a lasting impression on the lives of those around her.

Cara is lovingly remembered by her husband, Paul Daniels; her children, Owen and Alaina Daniels; her parents, Mike and Cathy Fisher; her mother-in-law, Bertha Spessard; her brother, Dusty Fisher (Dr. Lauren Fisher); and her grandparents, Hazel ‘Mammaw’ Clinevell and Betsy ‘Bets’ Hodges.

In light of this devastating loss, the family expresses its deepest gratitude for the overwhelming expressions of sympathy and support.  They would also like to acknowledge the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke, Blue Ridge Cancer Care, and Carilion Clinic – especially Dr. Cara Rogers – for their exceptional care, support, and dedication.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, Va.  A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025, also in the chapel, with Rev. Twila Briscoe officiating.  Interment will immediately follow at Sherwood Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Cara’s memory by supporting her heartfelt wish to secure a lasting legacy for her children by contributing to her Go Fund Me https://www.gofundme.com/f/honoring-caras-legacy.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.johnmoakey.com.
