
The Botetourt Golf & Swim Club was the site of a Three Rivers District match last Thursday and the Glenvar team came in third among the seven schools. It was the best finish of the season for the Highlanders.
“We played really well at Botetourt,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “The team is starting to really put it together.”
Floyd County continued to dominate the district with a team score of 285, and the Buffaloes had the two lowest individual scores as Peyton Mason was medalist at 65 and Isaiah Cantrell was next low at 68.
Glenvar’s low score was a 79 by JD Williamson. Easton Quesenberry was next at 81, Jack Osburn shot 84 and John Deel rounded out the Glenvar scoring with an 85. That totaled 329, good for third behind Floyd and Carroll County’s 317.
A day prior at the Hunting Hills Country Club Glenvar competed in the Roanoke County Cup. William Byrd won the cup in the five school competition with a team score of 310. Hidden Valley was second at 314, Hidden Valley had 315, Glenvar came in at 337 and Northside shot 347.
“The team stayed disciplined and stuck to our game plan, we just didn’t finish off the round as strong as we wanted,” said Duff.
Deel had Glenvar’s best round with an 80. Also scoring were Quesenberry at 84, Tyler Shannon at 86 and Williamson with an 87. Tyler Chambers of William Byrd was medalist with a 73.
Glenvar is back in action today with a match at the Hanging Rock Golf Club.
