Last weekend the Roanoke College cycling team competed in multiple events at GoCross, an international category race hosted by Virginia’s Blue Ridge at Fallon Park in Roanoke.
The highlight of the weekend was a victory in the Category 2 Men’s race by Gus Lynott, who rode away from his competition early in the race and put on a show for the spectators. He was one of the only riders to clear the knee-deep sand pit without having to dismount from his bike, a demonstration of pure strength and will. Gus had a solid ride on Sunday as well, finishing third just slightly off the pace of the two riders in front of him.
Ruby Telepak scored podiums in both days of racing in the Category 3 Women’s races, finishing second place Saturday and again on Sunday. These were some great results for her after having broken her hand two months ago and not knowing how she would perform.
Alastair Amos had an impressive ride in his first ever CycloCross race with the team, riding to 4th place over the 45-minute race. He gained some valuable experience and confidence from the first day of racing and was able to put it to the test on Sunday.
The Maroons shift gears back to mountain biking as we head to Virginia Tech this weekend.
