The Glenvar golfers came up a little short in their bid to extend their season Monday. The Highlanders finished fifth in the 2C sub-region tournament at Great Oaks with the top three teams advancing.
Floyd County won the sub-region with a score of 288, their best score of the season after dominating Three Rivers District play. Radford was second at 319 and James River took the third spot in the region with a 339.
Patrick County was fourth at 342 and had three golfers qualify for the region as individuals. Likewise, Glenvar had three individuals advance with a team score of 351 and Martinsville was sixth at 507.
Floyd’s Peyton Mason was medalist with a four-under-par 68 followed by Hunter Crist of Radford who was one stroke back. Advancing to the Region 2C tournament as individuals from Glenvar will be JD Williamson, who led the Highlanders with an 81, John Deel, who shot 83, and Mason Young, who carded 90. Also scoring, but not advancing, was Jack Osburn who came in at 97.
“Not how we wanted or expected things to go at Great Oaks,” said Glenvar coach Shawn Duff. “We worked hard and prepared for the match but fell short of executing. I’m excited for our three freshman who will represent us at the Regional tournament.”
The Region 2C tournament will be played at the Falling River Country Club in Appomattox next Monday.
