
The Salem and Glenvar volleyball teams will on the road tonight after both teams had home matches Tuesday. The Highlanders will be at James River and Salem is at Blacksburg.
Glenvar defeated Carroll County on Tuesday and they’re now 14-2 overall and 7-1 in the Three Rivers District. Glenvar won 25-11, 25-20 and 25-17 as Sophia Hammersley hammered down 11 kills. Emily Rohrback had 25 assists, Zella Hayes had 10 kills and Macy McMahon had eight.
Last Thursday in Martinsville the Highlanders eased by the Bulldogs in three sets, 25-7, 25-11 and 25-5. Rohrback served up nine aces along with four kills and 17 assists. McMahon and Addi Cockram had four kills each.
Salem was defeated by Cave Spring Tuesday and fell to 12-3 on the season and 4-3 in River Ridge District play. The Knights won the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-21, but Salem rallied to win the next two, 25-14 and 25-11 to draw even. The Knights then won the deciding set to 15 by two points, 15-13.
“Cave Spring played really well and deserved to win,” said Salem coach Doug Eller.
Gabby Crawley had 13 kills and seven blocks for the Spartans and Emme Custer had seven kills and four blocks.
Salem has another tough one next Tuesday when they play at Hidden Valley.
