The Roanoke College field hockey team will be home this Saturday to host Virginia Wesleyan University. The first whistle blows at noon at Kerr Stadium for Roanoke’s last home game of the season.
Roanoke is 4-10 overall and 2-3 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference games after falling to Shenandoah in Salem last Saturday, 4-2. The Hornets, who are ranked 17th in Division III, improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Shenandoah jumped on top early with two goals in the first period. The Maroons answered back in the second period when Corinne Orlando sent a ball into the middle from the top of the arc to Kaitlyn Robertson. Robertson then swept in past the keeper and into the bottom left corner to make it 2-1.
In the second half the Hornets scored two more while Maddy Holmes had a goal for the Maroons. RC goalie Chloe Miller made 10 saves, including six in the third period to keep the Maroons in the game.
