The middle school wrestling season debuted last week and Andrew Lewis was buzzing with action Saturday at the Wolverine Duals. Ten middle school teams competed in Salem with host Lewis winning the event followed by Blacksburg and Cave Spring.
The Wolverines had some strong performances. Chris Vernor went 5-0 at 77 pounds with three pinfalls and no points scored against him. Landon Booth was 5-0 at 112, all on first period pins, and also allowed zero points. Carter Webb was 5-0 with four pins and an overtime win at 136 and Zaire Reynolds was 5-0 at 190, all by pinfall.
Glenvar competed in the Duals. Wyatt Grants and Max Millete went undefeated for the Highlanders and Ethan Yetzer was 4-1.
Both schools also had tri-match- es last week. Lewis defeated Ben Franklin and Central Academy in Rocky Mount while the Highlanders swept Hidden Valley and Northside at home.
