The Roanoke College men’s basketball team was picked to finish third in a vote of the conference coaches with the season opening this week. The Maroons opened with a 90-38 win over Christendom at the Cregger Center in Salem Tuesday and this weeend they’ll host the annual Frankie Allen Tip-Off Classic.

lassic Allen Classic opens Friday at the Cregger Center with a 6 pm game between Roanoke and Southern Virginia University. An 8 pm game will fol- low between Guilford College and Marymount. On Saturday Guilford will play Southern Virginia at 1 pm followed by Roanoke against Marymount at 3 pm.

Roanoke is ranked 10th in the D3Hoops.com pre- season poll. Last winter, the Maroons advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Round of 16 for the first time since the 1995-96 campaign. Roanoke finished the 2024-25 season 25-6, the most wins for the program since the 1993-94 season.

The ODAC looks strong again. Despite being the 10th ranked team in the nation the Maroons were picked just third in the conference. Randolph-Macon was picked first in the coaches’ poll, receiving 11 of the 12 first place votes. Virginia Wesleyan was picked second and the Maroons are third, receiving the remaining first place vote. Hampden-Sydney and Lynchburg are picked fourth and fifth.
