Believe it or not, Virginia High School League winter sports are less than two weeks away with December 1st as the first date for official games, meets and matches.
Salem and Glenvar High will be having scrimmages with the season drawing near. At Salem the boys’ basketball team will scrimmage at William Fleming this evening while the girls will host Fleming. Both start with jayvee scrimmages at 5:30 pm followed by the varsity.
Next Monday, November 24, the girls’ basketball team is at Brookville for jayvee and varsity scrimmages, beginning at 5:30 pm. Next Tuesday the boys scrimmage at Brookville, same times.
The Spartan teams are off for Thanksgiving, then the boys open the regular season on December 1 at William Byrd. The girls host Byrd on December 2nd and Salem will also host the first swim meet that night at the Salem YMCA.
At Glenvar, the girls’ varsity basketball team was scheduled to scrimmage at Northside on Wednesday of this week while the boys’ first scrimmage is next Monday, November 24, at Galax.
Next Tuesday the boys are back on the court at Patrick Henry in Roanoke for a scrimmage while the girls host Auburn at GHS, beginning at 6 pm.
Glenvar’s girls will open their official winter schedule on Monday, December 1, with a home game against Craig County. The boys’ first game is Thursday, December 4, against Blacksburg at Glenvar.
The Glenvar wrestlers will open their season on Wednesday, December 4, with a match at Martinsville.
