Roanoke Wrestlers Shut Out Southern Virginia

The Roanoke College wrestling team hosted Southern Virginia in a dual match at the Cregger Center last Thursday and shut out the Knights, 50-0. The match opened with three straight forfeits and the Maroons continued winning 57-0 at the Cregger Center in Salem.

The Maroons dominated the match, winning the first nine matches in the first period. The Maroons had three wins by pin, five by technical fall, one by major decision, and one regular decision.

Roanoke opened the scoring quickly as Connor Rianno picked up an early takedown en route to a pin in 1:07. Mac Cafurello followed with a tech fall at 133 [19-0] followed with first-period technical fall victories.

Casey Smith blanked his opponent at 157 by technical fall 15-0 at 157, while Kyle Lee pinned Wyatt Sullivan in 1:55 at 165. William Byrd product Xavier Preston won by major decision at 174, 15-4, and Jacob Sullivan had a forfeit victory at 184. Hunter Moore pinned his foe in 1:33 at 197 and heavyweight Brady Elswick finished the action with the victory with a 13-4 major decision win at 285.

The Roanoke wrestling team will head to Vermont for the Castleton Duals.
