Alfred Leon McDaniel, 98, a former resident of Salem, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2025, at his residence in Dothan, Alabama.

Leon was born May 30, 1927, in Salem, Virginia to the late James McDaniel & Pearl (Cochran) McDaniel. Following high school and business college, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his military service, he was stationed at Roswell Army Aviation Base in New Mexico. Leon was an accountant at Yale Lock/Eaton Corporation until his retirement in 1989. Outside of work, he enjoyed spending time with his family, walking in the woods, and playing golf.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Marlene St. Clair; and his sister, Edith Perkins.

He is survived by the love of his life, and his wife of 77 years, Helen E. (Brumfield) McDaniel of Dothan; his daughter, Cindy Sheffield (David) of Dothan; his two granddaughters, Jennifer Randa (Hunter), and Amanda Woodham (Dustin); and his three great-grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his smile, his gentle presence, and the love he had for his wife and family.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Barbara and the staff and nurses of Wiregrass Home Care and DaySpring Hospice for the love and care shown to their loved one during this difficult time.

Per his wishes, no services will be held at this time.
