The Fort Lewis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will partner with Wreaths Across America on Saturday, Dec. 13, to honor local veterans with a noon ceremony at the Salem Museum.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will take place at the museum’s Veterans Plaza. The brief ceremony will recognize the service and sacrifice of community veterans before volunteers assist with placing wreaths on veterans’ graves at East Hill and East Hill North cemeteries.
Wreaths Across America, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, grew out of a wreath-laying tradition at Arlington National Cemetery started in 1992 by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester. The organization now coordinates December wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington and at thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations across the United States and beyond, including Salem. The Fort Lewis Chapter of the DAR is among its partners.
The Salem Museum, located in the historic 1845 Williams-Brown House at 801 E. Main St., is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free, with donations accepted. For more information, call 540-389-6760 or visit SalemMuseum.org.
