Senior Jackson Rutkowski eclipsed the 700 career kill mark when the Roanoke College men’s volleyball team dropped two tightly contested battles in Greenville, Pennsylvania last weekend. The Maroons lost to Thiel College in four sets and St. John Fisher University in five.
Against Thiel all four sets were close with the final two requiring extra points. Thiel took the first set, 25-21, before RC grabbed the second at 25-20. Thiel then finished out the game with 34-32 and 26-24 set victories. Rutkowski, Cade Kinne, and Colin Mendoza all hit double digit kills.
It was another tightly contested match against St. John Fisher. The Maroons took the first and fourth sets (25-23 and 25-21) to force a fifth set but ultimately fell in that final set, 15-13. Rutkowski also led in kills for match two, tallying 12. His combined 25 kills on the day put him at 717 career kills, making him just the second Maroon to surpass the 700 mark, joining teammate Michael Cummins.
The Maroons, now 4-2, are back in Pennsylvania this Saturday when they travel to Elizabethtown to face Hood College at 1 pm and host Elizabethtown at 3 pm.
