After 10 consecutive days of no high school sports the Salem and Glenvar teams are hoping for some warmer weather this week. A full slate of action is scheduled, weather permitting of course.
Glenvar played high school basketball games on Tuesday to break the string of inactivity but Salem’s games with Christiansburg were postponed as Montgomery County Public Schools were still not allowed to travel or host games. Glenvar’s boys won at James River, 52-49, and the Glenvar girls lost to the Knights at home, 65-35.
On Wednesday the Salem High basketball teams were scheduled to play Blacksburg, with the boys at home and the girls at Blacksburg. At press time there had been no decision from Montgomery County on whether those games would be played. Salem’s wrestlers were scheduled to compete at Lord Botetourt, and that was most likely “ a go.”
Today, Thursday, the Glenvar basketball teams are scheduled to play Radford with the boys at home and the girls at Radford. This weekend is the big “Adam Ward Classic” with the Salem boys and girls and Glenvar boys all participating. See the related story in this section for details.
On Saturday the Region 4D wrestling tournament, with Salem, is scheduled for Orange County High School. The Region 2C tournament, with Glenvar, has been moved from this Saturday to February 14. Also Saturday Salem will be participating in the Region 4D swim meet at Liberty University and Glenvar will swim in the Region 2C meet at the Hargrave Military Academy pool.
Next Monday, February 9, Salem will make up previously postponed basketball games with Hidden Valley. The boys are at home hoping to avenge a prior loss and the girls are at Hidden Valley.
Next Tuesday, February 10, Salem’s basketball teams take on Pulaski with the boys at home and girls in Dublin. Glenvar has basketball games with Patrick County, with the boys at home and the girls in Stuart.
Obviously, events and times are subject to change due to the weather but that’s how it looks as of Wednesday.
