Caleb Franze lays one in for the Maroons.

The Roanoke College men will begin a stretch of four straight home basketball games to finish off the regular season this week, with Guilford visiting on Wednesday and Shenandoah on Saturday at 2 pm. The Maroons are hanging on to third place in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings after splitting two ODAC games last week.

Last Wednesday, February 4, the Maroons saw their six game winning streak come to an end with a 64-56 loss to Washington & Lee in Lexington. Roanoke trailed by as many as 17 points in the second half but fought back to within six, 54-48, with 5:52 left in the game but could get no closer.

The Generals forced Roanoke into just 3-of-28 shooting from three-point range for the game.

On Saturday the Maroons bounced back with a convincing 73-57 win over Eastern Mennonite University in Yoder Arena in Harrisonburg. The Royals are coached by former Salem High and Roanoke College graduate Melvin Felix.

RC junior guard Jackson Bell delivered 23 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two blocked shots for the 17th ranked Maroons. Caleb Franze had a full stat line of 12 points, six rebounds and five assists, Porter Stanley had 11 points and six rebounds and frontcourt mate Gavin O’Malley produced 10 points and four rebounds.

With the win the Maroons improved to 16-5 overall and 9-3 in the ODAC. Randolph-Macon and Virginia Wesleyan are tied for the conference lead at 10-2 each while W&L is one game behind RC at 8-4.
