Friends of Salem Library Spring Booksale: March 6-March 8

The Friends of the Salem Library (FOSL) will hold their semi-annual book sale at the Salem Public Library Friday, March 6 to Sunday, March 8. The FOSL members only sale is Friday, from 9a-noon. Anyone can come to the early sale by paying for FOSL membership at the door. The minimum joining fee is $10 per individual. Family membership is $15. Lifetime membership is $75.

Book sale chairman Ken Sosnowski reports that there will be a great selection of books as well as some very unusual special books for sale.

Spring Book Sale Hours:
Friday, March 6: 9am-noon: FOSL Members only
Noon-4pm: General Public
Saturday, March 7: 9am-4pm General Public
Sunday, March 8: 1-4pm $5 Bag Sale

March Events for Kids
Wednesday, March 11, 18; 3:15pm: Barks & Books Read with a therapy dog. Grades 1-5. Register at salemva.libcal.com
March 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26; 11am. Story Explorers : Children aged 0-5. Register at salemva.libcal.com
Thursday March 12, 19, 26; 10: 15 am. Book Babies Special story time for infants and crawlers. Register at salemva.libcal.com
Friday, March 13, 3:30pm: Book Chats: This month we’re reading Sparrow Being Sparrow by Gail Donovan! Come ready to chat about the book and complete an activity. Snacks will be provided! Open to grades 4-5. Register at salemva.libcal.com We’ll e-mail you when your copy of the book is available for pickup!
Tuesday, March 17, 3:30pm: Robot Puppets: Design your own robot hand puppets and explore books with robots! We’ll use recycled materials, sparkly bits, and scissors. Bring your imaginations! Grades 2-5. Register at salemva.libcal.com
Tuesday, March 31, 3:30pm: Book Buzz Book Club We’ll chat about our book, enjoy an activity, and nibble snacks. March’s book is Orris and Timble – The Beginning by Kate DiCamillo. Open to grades 2-3, minimum age 7. Register at salemva.libcal.com. Registration closes Friday, March 27th at 5pm. We’ll email you when your copy of the book is available for pickup!

March Events for T(w)eens
Saturday, March 14, 2pm: Decoden Picture Frames: Learn about the Japanese craft of Decoden while creating your very own picture frames using cream glue and cute charms and beads. Grades 9-12. Register at salemva.libcal.com
Friday, March 27, 3:30pm: Middle School Graphic Novel Workshop Grades 6-8. Bring a concept or story, and we will help you make it into the beginning stages of a graphic novel (drafting and simple illustrations). While we may not finish an entire story, our staff will help you navigate how to start a graphic novel and work on more at home. Register at salemva.libcal.com

March Events for Adults
Tuesday, March 10, 6:30pm: True Crime Book Club This month’s selection is “The Ghosts of Eden Park” by Karen Abbott. Join us to discuss a true story of jazz age bootleggers and murder.
Thursday, March 12, 2pm. Afternoon Games for Adults-Feud Trivia! Test your trivia knowledge! Attendees compete in teams of 4 to 6 people answering questions from various categories. Age 18+
Tuesday, March 17, 11am. Fall Prevention Presentation: Join Katie Wilson, RN as she explores risk factors and practical strategies from managing dizziness to improving home safety-to help people stay safe and independent. Register at www.salemlibrary.info or call 540-375-3089.
