LETTER TO THE EDITOR

President Trump’s war on Iran is unspeakably expensive (costing $3 billion on day one) and only harms our economy and security. The only U.S. president to be convinced by Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to mount a full scale war on Iran, Trump displays his weakness and abandonment of his campaign promises: No new wars, No starting World War III and America first.

Secretary of “War”, Pete Hegseth, plays the evil villain and boasts of breaking all the rules. Under Trump, our America has become a rogue state adopting some of the heinous tactics of our genocidal ally, Israel, in this war–exemplified by a U.S. Tomahawk missile hitting a girls’ school on day 1 with an Israeli- inspired “double tap.” Instead of acknowledging and apologizing, Trump claimed that Iran had bombed its own girls’ primary school. Additionally, Israel bombed oil depos in Tehran, setting them on fire, poisoning the air, water, environment and severely harming everyone’s lungs and skin. The world is watching.

Secretary Hegseth has conveyed to our forces that this is a religious war to bring about Armageddon. Americans are not safer by Hegseth’s electrifying of the world’s 2 billion Muslims against us. Also, what happened to the separation of church and state?

Iran did not pose a threat to the United States. It mainly stood as a bulwark against Israel carrying out its “Greater Israel” project to take over a large part of the Middle East. Why should the US be in favor of this destabilizing and genocidal project?

The U.S. has greater military power than Iran but Iran has its own cards to play. Iran can wage asymmetrical warfare closing down the Strait of Hormuz and affecting stock markets worldwide. Oil production will not bounce back in a day. The U.S. could win militarily but face decades of payback and loss.

Think that the bombs dropping cost us bridges, infrastructure, Medicare funding, research, and all the things that truly help make America great.

After assassinating Iran’s negotiating team in June prior to starting the 12-day war and then restarting attacks on Iran after winning in negotiations as Iran gave up all ability to enrich, there is no clear reason why it was in America’s interest to go to war—only harm. Netanyahu, (who hides in his jet and in Germany while Israel is attacked,) may see his great triumph of getting America to wage yet another Mid East war for Israel turn to regret.

This U.S.-Israel war on Iran is not supported by the American people. Trump has also provided good reason to impeach him on his unconstitutional war and creates a horrific legacy.
