It went down to the tie-breaker, but we have a winner in our “Steps to the Championship” NCAA “Basketball Madness.” When the last shot was made the Michigan Wolverines and Russ Myers of Salem came out on top.

Myers and a couple others missed 11 total games out of 63 possible, although the first round Thursday games were “gimmes” since the contest didn’t have to be in until Friday at 5 pm. Otherwise why would everyone in the contest pick High Point to beat Wisconsin!

Russ missed just one in the first round, picking St. Mary’s to beat Texas A&M in a 7-10 seed game, where St. Mary’s was in fact the seventh seed. He had three of the final four correct, missing only on Duke. He picked Michigan to go all the way, and that proved to be the difference when two others also missed 11. The first tie-breaker was picking the correct champion and the other two went with Duke and Arizona to win the championship.

For his efforts Russ will receive a $50 gift certificate from Mac & Bob’s Restaurant in Salem and a year’s subscription will be on his way to Bogey Lane. Nice job Russ!!
