The Glenvar tennis teams split with traditionally strong Radford on Monday of this week. The boys won 6-3 at home but the girls fell at Radford, 8-1, with Rebecca Magruder picking up the lone point.
The boys remained undefeated with their win. They beat Northside last week, 7-2.
The Glenvar girls are 4-2. Last week they swept Northside, 9-0, with singles wins from Magruder, Riley Price, Shawna Garwood, Karis Gillespie, Julia Carroll and Priya Patel. Double winners were the teams of Garwood & Magruder, Price & Gillespie and Rayah Kelley & Laura Paris.
Last Thursday at home the girls edged James River in a Three Rivers District match, 5-4. Price, Gillespie, Kelley and Board won in singles and Price and Gillespie team to win at second doubles.
“We are playing well,” said coach Shannon Hall. “Even in our losses we’ve been in several of the matches with chances to win. We should find more consistency as we progress through the season and put in the hard work at practice.”
