The Roanoke College men finished second and the women were fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference out door track meet at Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg last week end. The Lynchburg men and W&L women won team titles.
The second place finish was the best for the Maroon men in out door track since 1987. Roanoke totaled 137 points, finishing well ahead of third-place Washington and Lee with 105 points. Lynchburg won the team title with 249 points.
RC’s Lorenzo Camobreco was part of two event victories. He took the individual title in the 400m with a meet and personal-record time of 47.14 seconds, which vaulted him up to ninth in Division III this sea son. Max Cardwell also clocked a PR time, cross ing the line in 47.81 to place third and snag All ODAC laurels.
One day after setting a meet and program record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.95 seconds in the prelims – cur rently good for 15th in the country – DeShawn Austin claimed first place in the finals with a mark of 53.40 seconds. Austin also finished as the run ner-up in the long jump, garnering all-conference laurels with a mark of 7.18m.
Salem High grad Mitchell Taylor’s per sonal-best time of 54.51 seconds was good for fourth place in the 500m hurdles. Taylor was the second-place performer in the 110m hurdles, gar nering All-ODAC laurels with a time of 15.27 sec onds.
In the women’s meet Lindsey Hobin and Ophelia Ladner logged first-place performances for the Maroons. Hobin took the individual title in the 200m with a time of 24.74 seconds while Ladner defended her crown in the 400m hurdles, winning the event with a mark of 1:03.33. Roanoke was the runner-up in the 4×100 relay, as Hobin and Ladner joined forces with Nadira Cantey and Nalonda Henderson to grab All-ODAC honors with a time of 47.63 sec onds.
