Avery Steger, a 2026 graduate of Glenvar High School, has been awarded a $1,000 college scholarship from the Virginia Bear Hunters Association.

Steger, the daughter of Clint and Kelly Steger of Catawba, received the scholarship through the association’s annual program, which is open to members and their families.

She plans to attend Randolph College, where she will pursue a degree in sports medicine while competing on the college’s women’s soccer and women’s wrestling teams.

The Virginia Bear Hunters Association is a statewide organization dedicated to preserving the tradition of hunting bears with dogs and promoting sound wildlife management principles.

According to the association, scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, intended course of study, community and association involvement, honors and awards, and an essay submitted as part of the application process.
