The Glenvar softball team had a tough hill to climb to open the Region 2C playoffs last week and it proved to be a little too steep. The eighth seeded Highlanders fell to the top-seeded Appomattox Raiders, 10-0, in Appomattox.
Glenvar hung tough in a scoreless battle into the bottom of the third when the Raiders hung six on the board with five hits. Meanwhile, Glenvar struggled against Appomattox’s senior pitcher Paisley Mann’s rise ball, as Mann pitched a no-hitter for Appomattox.
A Radford University commit, Mann struck out 14 of Glenvar’s 17 batters in the game. The only ball Glenvar put in play was a deep fly ball by Audrey Moles that the right fielder was able to snag. Glenvar only had two base runners in the five innings before the game ended by slaughter rule. Zella Hayes was walked and Augusta Ford was hit by pitch.
With the loss Glenvar ended the season with a 5-18 overall record.
