Bekka Loder has coached her last race as head track coach at Glenvar High School, at least for the time being. Bekka announced that she’ll be stepping down as head track & field coach after an outstanding 10-year tenure leading the Highlander program.
Over the past decade, Loder has established Glenvar as one of the premier track and field programs in Virginia, guiding Highlander student-athletes to remarkable success at the state level. Under her leadership, Glenvar earned six VHSL state championships
While the championships and accolades speak to the success of the program, Loder’s greatest impact has been on the countless student-athletes she has mentored throughout her career.
“Her dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence have helped shape generations of Highlanders both on and off the track,” said Glenvar athletic director Andy Clapper. “Although coach Loder is stepping away from her role as head coach, we are excited to share that she will continue to serve the program as a volunteer assistant coach. Her continued involvement will provide invaluable support to our student-athletes and coaching staff while ensuring that her knowledge, experience, and passion for Glenvar Track & Field remain an important part of the program’s future.”
Loder, a Salem High School graduate, has three children who have participated in sports at Glenvar High. Bradey was an outstanding football player while Sydney and Joey won state championships in girls’ and boys’ track.
“Coach Loder has built a tradition of excellence that has become synonymous with Glenvar Track & Field,” said Clapper. “We are deeply grateful for her 10 years of leadership as head coach and are thrilled that she will continue to be a part of our program as a volunteer assistant. Her impact on Glenvar athletics will be felt for years to come.”
