
The Andrew Lewis and Glenvar Middle School teams competed in the Terrier Middle School Classic at William Byrd High School’s Patterson Stadium last Saturday. The Cave Spring Middle School teams swept the team titles and Glenvar finished second among both the boys and girls.
Glenvar’s Money Shaw had a historic day, coming in first and breaking three Glenvar Middle School track records in the long jump, 110 hurdles, and 200 meter dash. Money came in first in the high jump and finished strong with a 19 foot, 4 inch long jump, placing him as the number three middle school long jumper in the state.
Not to be outdone, Glenvar’s Grayson Harris set a personal record, defeating his State leading time in the 300 meter hurdles and breaking the school record in that event with a time of 43.68 seconds. According to milestat.com, Grayson and Money are currently ranked #1 and #2 in State in the middle school 300 hurdles.
Glenvar’s Ava Poindexter had dominant wins in the 100 hurdles, triple jump, high jump and 4 x 100 relay. She also finished second in the long jump and 300 meter hurdles. Ava’s 100 hurdle time of 16.76 seconds broke Glenvar’s school record set by Sydney Loder in 2019. Her winning triple jump of 33 feet 6 inches also ranks her as the #2 middle school triple jumper in the State. Glenvar’s Mylea Williams won the discus and Reese Bodigon won the 200 meter dash and anchored the first place 4 x 100 relay team of Audree Frantz, Edison Huffman and Ava Poindexter.
For Lewis, McKenzie Eversole had a great day on the oval picking up gold medals in winning the 1600 and 800 meter runs. A third gold was won with the 1600 meter relay team of Eversole, Jasmine Bond, Leigha Taylor, and Olivia Huff. Medals were also taken home by Huff in the 400 meters and Mikayla Black in the discus.
Ji’Zaiah Haynes was the big winner on Saturday, taking home four golds by winning the 100 and the 200 meter dashes, and the triple jump. For his fourth gold Haynes, along with Dustin Peters, Ely Yates and Zyere Richardson won the 400 meter relay. Dustin Peters had a great day winning four medals and Eli Yates won three.
Lewis and Glenvar will be competing in the middle school division of the Cosmo Track meet at William Fleming this weekend.
