Austin Carroll has been named to the 2017 spring Dean’s list at Virginia Commonwealth University.
Austin graduated from Salem High School in 2010 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Infantry. Upon graduation from the School of Infantry, Austin was hand selected to for duty at Marine Barracks 8th and I, Washington, D.C. where he spent two years supporting ceremonial and security missions in the nations capital which included funerals at Arlington National Cemetery and escorting fallen brother’s home to their final resting place.
He was also chosen to perform the funeral for Ambassador Stevens and the others who were killed in a terrorist attack in Benghazi, Lybia. After serving two years at 8th & I, Austin was stationed at Camp Pendleton where he deployed with the 31st MEU aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard to Japan, Australia and the Philippines. After four years of service, Austin completed two years at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College in Richmond, VA and transferred to VCU for the 2017 spring semester. Austin is studying Criminal Justice and Homeland Security with plans to attend OCS and commission as a Marine Corps officer after graduation.
