Guilford College proved to be little more than chum for the circling sharks as the Roanoke College women took a 26-1 lacrosse win over the Quakers last Saturday. The game was part of an Alumni Weekend schedule of events at RC, and prior to the game the graduating seniors were honored before a big crowd at Kerr Stadium.
Lilly Blair finished the day with six goals and an assist while Riley Chase added four scores and a pair of helpers. Tiernan Connor scored three times and a quartet of Maroons added two goals apiece.
Blair, a Salem High graduate, is the Old Dominion Athletic Conference’s leading scorer with 50 goals on the season. She’s 12th in assists and with two games to go she had 64 total points, just three behind the conference leader.
With the win the Maroons improved to 12-3 overall and 5-1 in the ODAC. They’ll finish the regular season this week with a home game against Randolph on Wednesday and a trip to Randolph-Macon on Saturday. Those games will be important as Roanoke is tied with Virginia Wesleyan for second in the ODAC coming into the week and Shenandoah is just a half game behind at 5-2.
The ODAC tournament is scheduled to begin Monday with the sixth seed hosting the seventh. The third and fourth seeds will open Wednesday and if RC can hang on to the second seed they wouldn’t play until Saturday, May 7.
