Salem High School Renovation Open House: The Salem City School division is inviting the public to an open house at the higher school from 5-8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7. Tours of the high school and athletic field house will be offered. Dedication remarks will start at 6:30 p.m.

Speaker Series—Pioneer and Patriot, The Life of Andrew Lewis: In the 1700s, land that would become the site of the Town of Salem was once the property of a particularly notable pioneer— Salem’s own patriot leader, Andrew Lewis. On Aug. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Salem Museum, Garrett Channell, the Salem Museum’s director of education and archives, will share Lewis’ heroic story, the role he played in the French and Indian War, and how his actions during the Revolutionary War helped secure the Colonies’ independence. This talk will be held at the Salem Museum and is free and open to the public. Channell will describe how Lewis twice won Virginia’s freedom, which Founding Father he was surprisingly close to, and Lewis’ impact on Salem. When Lewis was able to come home, it was to his massive estate, called Richfield, which included present day Salem and stretched to Kentucky.
2023 Movies at Longwood: “Sonic 2” will be shown at Longwood Park on Aug. 11. The movie will begin at dusk, around 8:30 p.m., and admission is free for all ages.
Pickin’ In The Park: The annual concert will be Saturday, Aug. 19. Junior Sisk will return for this year’s concert.
Author Talk and Book Signing: Virginia’s Lost Appalachian Trail: For more than two decades, hikers on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia walked through some of the most beautiful landscapes of the southern Appalachian Mountains. On Saturday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m., author Mills Kelly will describe the changes that occurred in 1952, when the Appalachian Trail Conference moved 300 miles of the trail more than 50 miles to the west. The presentation at the Salem Museum is free and open to the public. After the talk, Kelly will sell and sign copies of his latest book, “Virginia’s Lost Appalachian Trail.” Kelly is a lifelong hiker on the Appalachian Trail, and a professor of history at George Mason University in Fairfax.
36th Annual Mopars In The Valley Car & Truck Show: The free event will be at the Salem Civic Center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2.
Travis Tritt plays Salem Civic Center: Multi-platinum selling and award-winning artist Travis Tritt is returning to the Salem Civic Center Thursday, Oct. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the show go on sale Friday, Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. This performance is one of the many stops on Tritt’s current stateside tour and his Salem concert will also feature Crawford & Power. Mannheim Steamroller: Chip Davis, founder and creator of Mannheim Steamroller, will celebrate over 35 Years of his annual Christmas concert tour during a Sunday, Dec. 3 performance at 7 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.
