Bruney, Elizabeth “Betty” McCurdy

It is with great sadness that the family of Elizabeth “Betty” McCurdy Bruney, of Portsmouth, Virginia, announces her passing on Sunday, May 24, in Staunton at the age of 76. She was predeceased by her parents, Mac and Daisy McCurdy, sister Kimlah McCurdy Hyatt, and beloved husband, Lindsey Fred Bruney, Jr. She is survived by her son Joseph W. Bruney, daughter Lindsay M. Bruney and fiancé George W. Allison, granddaughter Emma Grace Elizabeth Whitesell and sister Lester McCurdy Rice.

Betty was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth. She grew up in Salem and graduated from Andrew Lewis High School. She attended Roanoke College where she was a member of Phi Mu Sorority and a graduate of Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Radiology Technology. While living in Fairfax County for many years, she was a member of the Clifton Women’s Club, the Arts Gala Committee at George Mason University and the Fairfax Symphony Guild.

A private burial will be conducted at a later date in Staunton.

Memorial donations in her honor may be made to Hospice of Virginia, Hospice Partners of America 3021 Lorna Road, Birmingham, AL 35222 or to the Hospice of the Piedmont by visiting www.hopva.org/donate-online-now.
