Students are back in classes today as Botetourt County teachers begin the instructional process for the 2017-18 school year. While most teachers have spent the past week getting ready for the students’ return, on Monday the staff from Botetourt Technical Education Center (BTEC) was busy running saws, swinging hammers, running caulk guns and doing other odds and ends to help finish the Habitat for Humanity House in Buchanan. The Daniel and Ashley Albright family will move into the house— Botetourt’s first Habitat house— when it’s completed later this year. BTEC students built the house as part of the building trades program at the school thanks to contributions from the Botetourt Education Foundation, and in May the house was moved to what will be its permanent home on Fourth Street in Buchanan. It’s there that individuals and groups like the BTEC staff have volunteered to help finish the home.
