The William Byrd boys soccer team got two goals from Landon Niday as they shut out Hidden Valley on Tuesday, 2-0, on Bruce Mahan Field at Hidden Valley High.
Niday scored once in each half. He put one in off a corner kick in the first half, then added some insurane in the second half. Nate Loving was in goal for the shutout.
“We should have put away more chances, but I’m glad we got the result we did,” said coach Matt Guilliams.
The win gives Byrd a 1-3-1 record for the season. The Terriers lost to Salem, 3-0, at Patterson Stadium last week.
“We just sort of switched off after the first goal,” said Guilliams. “We were creating chances, playing well defensively but as soon as we let in that first goal, we got down and just never rebounded.”
Byrd will get another crack at the Spartans tonight, this time at Spartan Field. On Friday the Terriers are back home to host William Fleming and next Tuesday, April 9, they’re in Moneta for a game with Staunton River.
