Clemons re-elected as Roanoke County School Board chair; 2026 meeting dates approved

The Roanoke County School Board has re-elected Cave Spring District representative Shelley Clemons to serve as board chair for 2026.

Clemons, who was first elected chair in 2025, was nominated during the board’s Jan. 8 work session and approved by a majority vote of the board. In nominating Clemons, Hollins District representative David M. Linden cited her leadership skills, collaborative approach and commitment to the division’s mission.

Linden said Clemons has demonstrated an ability to bring people together, work effectively with the Roanoke County Board of Supervisors and maintain a focus on long-term priorities, making her well suited to continue in the leadership role.

Catawba District representative Brent Hudson was also re-elected to continue serving as vice chair for 2026.

In addition to leadership elections, the board approved its meeting calendar for the 2026 calendar year. Regular school board meetings will be held at 6 p.m., while work sessions will begin at 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Dates are subject to change.

The approved schedule includes:

• Jan. 22 — School Board Meeting

• Jan. 27 — Budget Work Session

• Feb. 5 — Work Session

• Feb. 19 — School Board Meeting

• Feb. 24 — Budget Work Session

• March 3 — Work Session

• March 11 — Budget Work Session

• March 31 — School Board Meeting

• April 2 — Work Session

• April 16 — School Board Meeting

• May 7 — Work Session

• May 21 — School Board Meeting

• June 4 — Work Session

• June 11 — School Board Meeting

• July 9 — Work Session

• July 23 — School Board Meeting

• Aug. 6 — Work Session

• Aug. 20 — School Board Meeting

• Sept. 3 — Work Session

• Sept. 17 — School Board Meeting

• Oct. 1 — Work Session

• Oct. 15 — School Board Meeting

• Nov. 5 — Work Session

• Nov. 12 — School Board Meeting

• Dec. 3 — Work Session

• Dec. 10 — School Board Meeting

All meetings and work sessions will be held at the Roanoke County Public Schools Central Office, 5937 Cove Road, unless otherwise announced. Meetings are open to the public, though in-person attendance may be limited and overflow rooms may be used.

The board chair may schedule additional meetings or work sessions as needed.
