•October is National Roller Skating Month! And as part of a nationwide initiative, rink operators are offering a free Learn 2 Skate Class, because skating is more fun (and safer) when you’re good at it! The Skate Center of Roanoke Valley will hold a free class from 5:30 to 6 p.m.
•This full-service office-on-wheels is ready to help with all of your Virginia DMV needs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Just come on in to the DMV’s mobile unit located in the Salem Civic Center parking lot and take care of the following: apply/renew your ID card (adults & children), apply/renew your driver’s license – take road and knowledge tests; get your picture taken; reinstate driving privileges, apply for a Veteran ID card, get a copy of your driving record and obtain vehicle titles, license plates, decals, transcripts.
•One week after Jake Owen’s single, “I Was Jack (You Were Diane),” hit Number 1 on the country airplay charts, he announced the second leg of his “Life’s Whatcha Mate It Tour” which includes a stop at the Salem Civic Center with special guests Tyler Farr and Morgan Wallen. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets ranged from $25 to $60.

•The Compassionate Friends of Roanoke Valley will host their Annual Walk to Remember at Wasena Park in Roanoke. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Program begins at 11 a.m. The program includes an opening ceremony with a dove release sponsored by John M. Oakey and Sons, followed by a onemile walk and potluck picnic. Hotdogs and drinks will be provided. This is an annual fundraiser for TCF. We will be accepting Gifts of Love in memory of our children who have died. All donations are greatly appreciated and will be used locally to help families who have experienced the loss of a child at any age and from any cause.
•Come run the LewisGale Salem Half Marathon, Virginia’s Blue Ridge 8K or G&H Contracting Kids Fun Run. The run will start and finish on Main Street with all your friends and family cheering you on as you come down the home stretch.
