• For free family fun join come out to the 11th Annual EastMont Tomato Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Meadowbrook Center in Shawsville, Virginia. The free festival features contests for the tomato art and recipe, as well as competitions for Biggest, Ugliest and Best-Tasting tomato. You can also don your best tomato-themed outfit to compete in the ever-popular Tomato Pageant, and belly up to become the Tomato- Eating champion. The festival will also feature: great food, live music by local bands, a magician and games and more. This year’s festival is being presented by Red Sun Farms, a leader in the true greenhouse vegetable industry, owning and operating farms in all three NAFTA countries: Canada, Mexico and the United States, including nearby Dublin.

Richfield Living will be hosting Annette Clark from the Alzheimer’s Association, who will share with attendees an update on the latest research and findings about Alzheimer’s. At the conclusion of this session, Richfield will be conducting a very important survey to gather insights from caregivers on what tools and resources they feel they need to support their loved one(s) with Alzheimer’s and/or dementia. Based on the feedback received at this event, Richfield will be re-structuring its caregiver support meeting, as well as setting up a Dementia café (to feature Wellness Arts activities with the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra), so loved ones and their caregivers can hopefully take part in the RSO’s wellness arts outreach.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 23 Seniors Day at Catawba Valley Farmers Market, 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. In addition to farmers market vendors & their food items, representatives from agencies and businesses of interest to seniors will be present, including Our Health magazine, insurance agents, home health care, Extension Service, LOA, etc. Free hot dogs between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m., free drawings for vendor gift certificates.
