Fall practices are underway for high school sports at Salem and Glenvar and the golf season has already begun.
Salem High’s golf team was scheduled to open the season at the Pulaski Country Club on Tuesday, but results were too late for publication. The Spartans will play in the annual Bob McLelland Metro Tournament on August 8 and 9, with the first round at Blue Hills and the second round at the Botetourt Country Club. Glenvar’s golf team won’t open until August 13 at Hanging Rock.
Salem and Glenvar will scrimmage each other in volleyball on Wednesday, August 8, at Salem High. The jayvees will scrimmage at 5:30 pm, followed by the varsity teams at 7 pm.
In football, Salem will have two home scrimmages. The Spartans will host Brookville at Salem Stadium at 6 pm on August 9 and play Magna Vista in a Benefit Game on Friday, August 17. Andrew Lewis Middle School will host a football jamboree at Salem Stadium on Thursday morning, August 9, at 10 am.
The Glenvar football team will be at Graham on August 10 and home to Blacksburg on August 17.
Football practice continues this week with Salem going 2:30 to 4:30 pm and 6:15 to 8:15 pm all week, with full pads on Friday. Glenvar will go from 3:30 to 8:30 pm beginning today.
The cross country teams won’t start their season until the end of the month. Salem will scrimmage Pulaski County at Randolph Park on August 10.
