The first high school scrimmages of the fall sports season will be held this week, beginning today with football at Salem Stadium.
Andrew Lewis Middle School will host a football jamboree at the stadium beginning at 10 am. The Wolverines, Patrick Henry, William Byrd and William Fleming will participate in eighth grade scrimmages, followed by a seventh grade scrimmage between Lewis and William Byrd at approximately 11 am.
Then, tonight, Salem High will take the field for the first time against a team wearing a different color. Brookville will provide the opposition for the Spartans in a scrimmage beginning at 6 pm.
Glenvar’s team will debut on Friday of this week with a scrimmage against Graham High School in Bluefield, VA. On Saturday the Glenvar Middle School team will participate in a jamboree at Read Mountain Middle School, beginning at 10 am.
Both Salem and Glenvar High will be home for their final scrimmages on Friday, August 17, as Salem hosts Magna Vista in a benefit game and Glenvar plays host to Blacksburg. The regular season starts on August 24 with Glenvar at Galax and Salem home to Amherst County.
Salem and Glenvar were scheduled to scrimmage in volleyball on Wednesday of this week. The Spartans will open the regular season on August 21 at home against Liberty Christian Academy while Glenvar opens at home against Blacksburg on August 23.
