These Glenvar girls, top left, were selected for the 2022 all-region cheer team. Left to right are Emily Callaghan, Ansleigh Ermel, Caroline Frantz, Selena Noel, Victoria Guardia, Isabella Boardwine, Alexandra Brown and Ryleigh Acree. They were recognized at halftime of Glenvar’s Region 2C football game last week after being chosen among hundreds of cheerleaders across Region 2C/2D for all of their hard work, skill, and dedication to their sport. The 2C/2D Regional Cheerleading Champion award of “Cheerleader of the Year” goes to Glenvar captain Isabella Boardwine. To earn this honor a cheerleader must be the top pick of the Regional Championship team. Securing that spot requires tremendous athleticism, outstanding leadership, excellent skill and showmanship, and she must be a shining example of a true cheerleader on and off the mat. Isabella exceeds all of those requirements, and her devotion to her team and sport never goes unnoticed. Cheerleader of the Year is one of the highest honors in competition cheerleading. The Highlanders were region champions and third in the state this year. Below they perform at the state competition at VCU in Richmond on November 5. The entire squad includes seniors Isabella Boardwine and Victoria Guardia; juniors Ryleigh Acree, Emily Callaghan and Caroline Frantz; sophomores Alexandra Brown, Ansleigh Ermel and Selena Noel; and freshmen Kayelynn Dickson, Morgan Gaines, Chelsea Garwood, Shawna Garwood and Addison Snead.
