The Glenvar Middle School football team defeated Patrick County last Thursday at Highlander Stadium, 27-16. Kiptyn Jones threw two touchdown passes to Haden Henderson in the first quarter to give Glenvar an early 13-0 advantage, then Money Shaw ran in a touchdown in the second quarter to give the Highlanders a 20-0 lead at the half. In the third quarter Garrison Burris picked off a pass and returned it 80 yards for a “pick six” to up the lead to 27-0. Patrick County converted a couple late deep touchdown passes in the fourth quarter to make the score looker closer than the game at 27-16. Shaw recorded a team high eight tackles in the game, including three sacks. With the win Glenvar improved to 5-3 and clinched a winning season with one game to go, today at GHS against Central Academy. “The guys up front blocked the best we have all year and we were really happy how well the guys executed through the first three quarters on all sides of the ball,” said GMS coach Josh Jones. “Hopefully we can finish the season well this Thursday.”
