The Glenvar soccer teams both went to the Class 2 state finals this spring and the recently released Virginia High School League All-State teams reflect that success. Glenvar had three girls and the Coach-of-the-Year on the girls’ all-state team and five all-state selections on the boys’ team.
Glenvar coach Kyleigh Drew was named the state Coach-of-the-Year in Class 2 after leading the Highlanders to the state championship. First team all-state selections from Glenvar included three underclassmen, sophomore Giuliana Stanley at forward, junior Rhyan Harris at mifield and sophomore Megan Pomerleau on defense.
All three were also on the All-Region 2C first team along with defender Kennerly Nichols. Second team all-region Highlanders included senior forward Kailah Finley, junior midfielder Faren Wilson, sophomore midfielder Davin Tate and freshman keeper Keira Booze.
Glenvar dominated the All-Three Rivers District team with Stanley, Harris, Pomerleau, Wilson and senior forward Jordan Crouch on the first team. Booze and sophomore defender Brooke Smyth were named to the All-3RD second team.
For the boys’ soccer team senior forward Riley Geddes, senior defender Maddox Fisher and junior midfielder Colin Clapper were all named first team All-State in Class 2. Junior forward Jacson Shepherd and sophomore defender Zach Curfiss are second team all-state selections.
In Region 2C Geddes was named the Player-of-the-Year and Highlander coach Josh Jones is the region Coach-of-the-Year. Joining Geddes on the first team are Fisher, Clapper, Shepherd and Curfiss, and Glenvar had no one on the second team.
In the Three Rivers District Geddes was Player-of-the-Year and Jones was Coach-of-the-Year. First team all-3RD players are Geddes, Fisher, Clapper, Shepherd, Curfiss and freshman forward Wesley Feliciano. Second team all-district included senior Christian Housh at midfield and sophomore Jake Williams on defense.
Glenvar was shut out in All-State and All-Region baseball and softball. All Three Rivers District baseball honors went to senior Clay Caldwell as a second team selection in both the outfield and at large.
In softball, senior Savana Luper was first team All-Three Rivers District in the outfield while second team all-district honors went to senior Sophie McCulley on the mound, senior Sarah Kate Tozier in the outfield and sophomore Izzy Shearer in the infield.
