The Glenvar Rotary Club threw a big celebration when it inducted two new members on July 24. Andy Jones and Scott Laughon are the newest Glenvar Rotarians.
Jones is Administrator of Richfield Living’s Recovery and Care Center and The Rehab Center. Laughon is Sales and Marketing Manager of Specialized Saw and Mower. Jones has been assigned to the club’s Youth Service Committee, and Laughon to the Public Relations and Social Media Committee.
Glenvar Rotary President John King inducted each, with the help of Assistant District Governor Tim Wilborne of Cave Spring, who is a member of the Rocky Mount Rotary Club.
Special guests included Wilborne’s family, his wife Amber Wilborne, who is also a Rocky Mount Rotarian, and children Michael, 11, and Wendel, 9; and Salem Rotary Club members Bill and June Long who encouraged King to join the Glenvar Rotary Club as a Charter Member in 1999.
As he accepted his Rotary pin from King, Laughon told the club “I enjoy giving back to the community,” and said he was looking forward to being involved in more activities. The Glenvar resident has been volunteering with the Glenvar Rotary Club for a couple of years in such activities as parking cars for Olde Salem Days.
Jones, who lives in Christiansburg with his wife and three young children, said, “I am glad to be part of a great organization.” Rotary International has 1.2 million members across the world.
