The Glenvar High soccer teams saw their seasons come to an end on Memorial Day as the girls lost to Radford, 6-2, and the boys fell to Giles, in Region 2C quarterfinal games. Both games were on the road.
The girls got goals from Erika Murrill, assisted by Jayla Fuhrman, and Kira Pierce, with Madison Woolwine getting the assist. The boys were shut out at Giles, 8-0.
Both teams won their opening round games last Thursday at home. The boys beat Floyd, 3-1, as Nathan Booth, Gavin Curfiss and keeper Luca Gustafson all scored goals for Glenvar.
The girls beat Giles, 3-1. Kyleigh Drew had two goals and Jenna Hux had one. Jessica Lucas and Jayla Fuhrman had assisted for the Highlanders.
The girls finished their season with a winning record of 7-6-1.
“The girls put in a lot of hard work and dedication into this year, and improved so much since the beginning of the season,” said coach Meg Ryan. “By the end of the season the girls worked as a cohesive unit, rather than as individuals, which ultimately allowed us to achieve our biggest accomplishments against, in my opinion, the three best teams we played this year. These accomplishments included holding James River to two goals and scoring one against them, scoring two goals on Radford in the Regional playoff quarterfinals and beating Giles in the first round of the Regional playoffs after they beat us twice in the regular season.”
The boys finished their season with a 6-8-1 record.
